Tower Hamlets Town Hall

Tower Hamlets

Tower Hamlets new and improved Town Hall is situated in Whitechapel on the grounds of old London Hospital building. Internally stripped back from it's hospital roots but left behind is the front carcass of the 18th-century building and substantial extensions from the 19th and early 20th century.

Designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, architects responsible for the New Scotland Yard, Metropolitan Police headquaters and their conversion into homes and hotel of the BBC’s former Television Centre in White City.

The old London Hospital Building open in 1757, with it's grade II listing the exterior remains the same as it once was and the old architecture is infiltrated by a whole new interior with large open-plan office spaces, smaller meeting rooms, town hall chamber, large cafeteria, and ground floor 'Resident's Hub' with the entire ground floor will be dedicated for public use in an accessible place which is a stark contrast to the council’s former civic centre which was in a rented premises in East India Dock.
